Three simple homemade dog treats your pup will love!

I absolutely love making homemade treats for my dog—it’s such a fun, easy way to show some extra love while making sure they’re munching on something healthy and delicious. Today, I’m sharing three of my favourite quick and simple dog treat recipes. They all use basic pantry ingredients, take very little time, and most importantly, they get my dog’s tail wagging every single time!

Peanut butter and out biscuits

My dogs go absolutely nuts for anything with peanut butter, so these crunchy biscuits are always a hit at our house. What I love most about them is how simple they are to whip up—and they make the whole kitchen smell amazing while baking.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

  • ½ cup rolled oats

  • â…“ cup natural peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)

  • ½ cup water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, combine flour and oats.

  3. Stir in the peanut butter and water until a dough forms.

  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.

  5. Use your favourite cookie cutter (I love using bone shapes!) to cut out biscuits.

  6. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

  7. Let cool completely before serving to your pup.

Whenever I bake these, my dog sits patiently by the oven, nose in the air, waiting for his treat. They also store really well in an airtight container for up to a week.

Frozen Yogurt Pops

These frozen treats are a lifesaver on hot days! They’re creamy, a little tangy, and so refreshing. Plus, they only need a few ingredients and no baking at all.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain unsweetened yogurt

  • ¼ cup creamy peanut butter

  • (Optional) 1 ripe banana, mashed

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until well combined.

  2. Spoon the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.

  3. Freeze for a few hours until solid.

My dog loves these right out of the freezer. I keep a batch ready all summer long—they’re like mini pup-sicles!

Pumpkin Treats

I especially love making these in the fall when pumpkin is everywhere, but canned pumpkin works anytime of year. They have a soft, slightly chewy texture, and dogs go crazy for that pumpkin-peanut butter combo.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup canned pumpkin puree (make sure it’s 100% pumpkin, not pie filling)

  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter

  • 1½ cups whole wheat flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, combine pumpkin and peanut butter.

  3. Add flour gradually and mix until a dough forms. You might need to add a splash of water if it’s too dry.

  4. Roll dough into small balls or press into fun shapes.

  5. Bake on a lined baking sheet for about 20 minutes, until firm but still slightly soft inside.

  6. Let cool before treating your pup.

These smell so good while baking that I always wish they were for me!

Why I love making homemade treats

Making these treats doesn’t just make my dogs happy—it makes me happy too. I know exactly what’s going into them, there are no weird additives, and I get to spend a little creative time in the kitchen. Plus, it feels extra special giving my pups something I made myself.

I hope you give one (or all) of these recipes a try. They’re quick, simple, and bring so much tail-wagging joy. If you do, I’d love to hear which one your furry friend loves most!

Happy baking (and freezing)!
